After graduating with no experience in interior design, Angelyn Wong excitedly joined Rezt+Relax. With a desire to learn more, she requested for training and embarked on a year-long apprenticeship with one of their creative leads. Fast forward to today, she is a senior interior designer and still as passionate about her work as ever.A lot of Angelyn’s projects involve designing interiors for smaller units. Here in Singapore and other densely populated cities, it can be difficult to strike a balance between space optimisation and a holistic living environment. However, Angelyn takes the time to get to know her clients and carefully tailor her designs to achieve a larger-than-life feel for smaller units. It was the case recently with a project for an overseas customer. When he explained his vision for a hotel-like experience and to use gold accents throughout the apartment, Angelyn knew she had her work cut out for her. She gained inspiration from various hotel chains located across the globe and was mindful of her client’s request for ample built-in storage. The outcome was an opulent apartment have sufficient space for both guests and family. Despite only a few changes to the kitchen and bathrooms, Angelyn ensured the entire unit was consistent with a colour palette seen throughout with different hues and textures in each space. To give the home a warm and cozy feel, she integrated warm lighting and large bronzed mirrors to create the illusion of space. She also used wall textures, little accents of colours, and custom-made wall displays with soft furnishings to add complexity and interest to the interior. The result is a stunning apartment with a grand presence within a limited space – the perfect holiday home! Angelyn has certainly done it again and shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. With 12 years of experience under her belt, she’ll continue giving homes the star-studded treatment it deserves.

A lot of Angelyn’s projects involve designing interiors for smaller units. Here in Singapore and other densely populated cities, it can be difficult to strike a balance between space optimisation and a holistic living environment. Angelyn explains that clients often require ample built-in storage, which naturally impacts the available floor space in an apartment. To overcome this challenge, she gets creative in how she places various details that create the impression and feel of a larger space.
One example of her work is the recently completed Gramercy Park project, which was done for an overseas customer who uses it as a second home when he visits Singapore. With a brief to craft a high-end hotel-style apartment with gold accents, Angelyn explored various boutique and international hotel chains before getting to work.
Warm lighting and large mirrors were used throughout the entire apartment to balance the natural light and create a grand feel in spite of the compact size. To break up any repetitiveness, Angelyn introduces a few other colour accents such as emerald green armchairs and cushions. She also uses multiple textures on walls and finishings to provide interest and demarcate areas in the apartment.
The bedrooms feature a subtler take on the gold accents, with darker wood tones and shades of grey. Roman blinds matched to the tones of each room soften the look and complete the luxurious effect.
The end result is an impressive apartment that is stunning in style and comfortably fits the family during their holiday breaks.
